Setting
The Superior Health Council is the scientific advisory body of the FPS Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment.
Mission
The Superior Health Council is the gate between the policies and the scientific world as far as health issues are concerned. On the one hand, the Superior Health Council gives independent advice and recommendations to the Minister – and his staff – at his request. On the other hand, the Superior Health Council also provides advice and recommendations to the Minister and his staff on its own initiative.
Scope
The Superior Health Council is basically authorised to deal with any health issues, in particular in the following fields:
- Mental health (behaviour, addiction, psychosocial factors in public health, the training of professionals, psychotherapy, …)
- Physical environmental factors (ionising and non-ionising radiations, noise, etc.)
- Chemical environmental factors (chemicals, pollutants, biocides and pesticides, etc.)
- Food (healthy food, supplements, safety, packaging, novel foods, contaminants, microbiology, etc.)
- Biological problems – type 1: blood and derivatives, cells, tissues and organs, tissue and organ banks, …
- Biological problems – type 2: infectiology, vaccines, hygiene, etc.
